If you follow that rule you have a better chance of destroying your relationships than improving them.

  1. I understand your point and I agree that we all have different “love languages” that allow us to give and receive love in a way that’s better heard and appreciated by others in our lives. I don’t see this as contradictory to the golden rule, however. If I want others to understand my love language and express it, then I’ll understand and express their preferences as well – I’ll do unto others as I’d have them to unto me.

      Oh wow! Thanks for your comment, Leanne. I understand what you are saying. I failed to take that interpretation into account. Thank you!
      I do believe, however, that more people show love according to their own definition simply because most people think everyone experiences the world the way they do. So when they want to do something nice for someone they tend to do what they wish someone else would do for them.
      You are right, though, not all people do that.
